چکیده

Preliminary positions and magnitudes derived from the analysis of 12 weeks of observations from the Hipparcos star mappers are systematically compared with the various sources of ground-based data used in the Hipparcos Input Catalogue. These comparisons allow to cross-check the accuracies claimed by the various sources of ground-based data and by the analysis method of star mapper data. The parameters obtained for double stars, relative position and orientation, are also compared with ground-based data.

Absolute Proper Motions of Open Clusters . I . Observational data

Mean proper motions and parallaxes of 205 open clusters were determined from their member stars found in the Hipparcos Catalogue. 360 clusters were searched for possible members, excluding nearby clusters with distances D < 200 pc. Members were selected using ground based information (photometry, radial velocity, proper motion, distance from the cluster centre) and information provided by Hippa...

A New Vla–hipparcos Distance to Betelgeuse and Its Implications

The distance to the M supergiant Betelgeuse is poorly known, with the Hipparcos parallax having a significant uncertainty. For detailed numerical studies of M supergiant atmospheres and winds, accurate distances are a prerequisite to obtaining reliable estimates for many stellar parameters. New high spatial resolution, multiwavelength, NRAO3 Very Large Array (VLA) radio positions of Betelgeuse ...

The Hipparcos solar system objects catalogues ?

Astrometric and photometric measurements of a number of solar system objects were performed by the Hipparcos satellite in both the Hipparcos main mission and the Tycho experiment. The results concern mainly asteroids but also the planetary satellites Europa, Ganymede, Callisto, Titan and Iapetus, and the major planets Uranus and Neptune. The specific aspects of the Tycho/Hipparcos observations ...

The nature of some doubtful open clusters as revealed by Hipparcos

We discuss the nature of some galactic open clusters by using proper motions and parallaxes from the Hipparcos and ACT catalogues. We show that the clusters Collinder 399, Upgren 1, NGC 1252 and Melotte 227 do not exist. Collinder 132 is found to be mainly composed out of members of an OB association, but there may be a star cluster present in this area too. Röser & Bastian (1994) proposed that...

How many Hipparcos Variability-Induced Movers are genuine binaries?

Hipparcos observations of some variable stars, and especially of long-period (e.g. Mira) variables, reveal a motion of the photocenter correlated with the brightness variation (variability-induced mover – VIM), suggesting the presence of a binary companion. A re-analysis of the Hipparcos photometric and astrometric data does not confirm the VIM solution for 62 among the 288 VIM objects (21%) in...
